Blackburn Labs and CIRP Collaborate to Bring Rhode Island Raptors to the Digital World
Norma Burnell, principal web designer for Blackburn Labs, and a longtime Jamestown resident and admitted “bird nerd”, worked with Chris Powell, founder of the CIRP, to develop a website that is both informative, easy to navigate and aesthetically pleasing.
The new website includes a webcam feed of the osprey nest at the Great Creek, in Jamestown, a blog area and information on many of Rhode Island's local raptors. The website was built with the WordPress platform. WordPress is a content management website development tool that will enable Chris to write blog posts and update the content without needing to know code.
The old website, which launched about 8 years ago, needed a fresh modern look and to be upgraded to today’s best practices and standards.
About the Raptor Project:
The Conanicut Island Raptor Project, founded in 2005, is dedicated to the preservation, study and enjoyment of Jamestown, RI’s birds of prey. It is CIRP’s belief that an informed community that values its wildlife will act responsibly to protect wild animals and the habitat on which they depend for survival.
The CIRP has had osprey nesting platforms built all over the island of Jamestown. There currently are 22 nesting sites for osprey: in 2023 eighteen of these sites were occupied. A real success since in 2005 there was only one active osprey nest!
At Blackburn Labs we are passionate about what we do, especially when it comes to helping small businesses and groups get their message out to the world wide web. If you need a new website or are looking to update your current site, reach out to us for a free estimate.
